Two main points that Lewis makes in the first chapter of Mere Christianity.
He points out that from his observation all people believe in Right and Wrong. He calls this the “law of human nature” because everyone naturally believes there is a “right and wrong” or “common decency” or “ethics” or “morality”
His second observation is that everyone breaks this law. This tied in well with the sermon which looked at hypocrisy.
Brief discussion of Matthew 22:36-40 in which we look at the summary of the law as told by Jesus.
We then took a brief look at biblical history and how it could be divided into four main divisions:
1. Creation
2. The Fall
3. Redemption
4. Consummation (Not consumption)
Some interesting questions that popped up during our discussion:
- Why do we use the term consummation?
- What exactly is the church?
- Question about the Muslim man that visited our church last week. Where does he stand before God?
Hymn of the week: Nothing but the Blood
Homework:
Memorize Matthew 22:37-39:
37Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Recall the four major parts of Biblical History.
